A Cape Town fabric printer with a clear job
Fabric Printers Studio started in 2011 with a simple idea: people should be able to get fabric printed to suit their own project, not settle for whatever happens to be on the shelf. From our base in Ndabeni, we work with clients in Cape Town and send printed fabric nationwide by courier, so a customer in Durban, Gqeberha or Polokwane can place the same kind of order as someone collecting locally.
We handle custom curtains, upholstery, flags and fabric by the metre, along with smaller print runs for independent makers and larger volumes for trade clients. Some customers come to us with a finished artwork file. Others only have a colour, a rough sketch or a sample piece. Either way, the aim stays the same: produce fabric that looks right, holds up in use and arrives ready for the next step.
Being based in Ndabeni also keeps us close to the practical side of the work. We deal with packing, courier timing and load-shedding planning every week, so orders are managed with that reality in mind. It helps to have a team that knows local conditions, whether the fabric is going to a home in Sea Point or a workshop in Montague Gardens.
Why clients work with us again
Our work is built around useful detail. Fabric printing is not only about putting a design onto cloth. It is about getting the repeat right, keeping colour steady, checking the file before it goes to print and finishing the job properly so it can be used without extra hassle. That is how we approach every order, from a single sample to a bulk run.
We also understand that fabric gets used in different ways. Curtains need a clean drop and a neat finish. Upholstery has to take wear, handling and often coastal humidity. Event flags must be visible and durable enough for regular setup and pack-down. Dress fabric by the metre needs a good hand and a print that supports the final garment. The method changes with the job, and we price and plan that way.
- Clear communication from quote to dispatch
- Advice on suitable fabric types for the job
- Colour matching and strike-off sampling where needed
- Hemming and finishing for ready-to-use orders
- Packing that suits courier travel and handling
Clients often tell us they value having one team that can manage both the print and the practical finishing. That saves time, reduces back-and-forth and makes it easier to keep a project moving.
The people behind the print room
Fabric Printers Studio is run by a small team that understands both production and service. Luvuyo Mbeki leads the business as Managing Director, keeping the work focused on quality, turnaround and the needs of trade and retail customers. Anika van Wyk manages production, making sure orders move through the right steps. Siyabonga Dlamini handles the printing, where file accuracy and colour control matter every day.
On the client side, Megan Naidoo helps with sales and order planning, while Charné Botha coordinates design work so repeats, artwork adjustments and sampling are handled properly. Thabo Molefe manages dispatch and logistics, which matters more than many people realise when a courier collection needs to leave on time or a bulk order has to be packed in the right sequence.
This is a hands-on team, not a call-centre setup. When a client asks whether a design will suit a curtain drop in a guest house, or how an upholstery print will behave in a high-traffic room, there is real production experience behind the answer. That kind of practical guidance helps clients choose better before the order is finalised.
How we handle custom work and repeat orders
Custom printing usually begins with a conversation about the end use. A home owner may need two curtain panels and a cushion set. A maker may need 20 metres for a small clothing run. A business may need branded flags, sample fabric or bulk rolls for a larger campaign. We ask the questions that help define the job correctly, then we confirm the file, fabric choice, dimensions and finishing requirements.
Repeat pattern setup is one of the areas that makes a big difference to the final result. If the repeat is off, the whole design can look awkward on the cloth. We check scale, direction and placement before printing. Colour matching is handled with the same kind of care, especially where a client needs a shade to sit close to an existing interior, brand colour or product range. For some jobs, we recommend a strike-off sampling first so the customer can see and feel the result before moving ahead with a bigger order.
That process keeps problems to a minimum. It is not about making the job more complicated than necessary. It is about catching avoidable issues early, before fabric and time are committed.
Fabric sourcing, finishing and the final handover
Not every client arrives with the right base fabric in hand, so we also assist with fabric sourcing. That can mean advising on a suitable cloth for upholstery, choosing a fabric that works well for curtains, or helping a business find a base that suits a promotional run. The right material matters just as much as the printed design, especially where the end use involves washing, sunlight, daily handling or outdoor exposure.
Once printing is complete, we can assist with hemming and finishing so the order leaves in a usable state. For curtains and home pieces, that usually means cleaner edges and a better fit at installation. For trade and bulk work, packing is just as important. We count, label and prepare the order so it can be checked on arrival without confusion.
- Small batch printing for limited runs and samples
- Bulk print runs for shops, makers and organisations
- Packing prepared for courier travel nationwide
- Practical finishing for ready-to-use fabric orders
Our dispatch process is set up for South African courier realities. If a delivery is going to Woodstock, Century City or further afield, the parcel still needs to move safely through the system and arrive in one piece. That is how we pack it.
A local base with national reach
Being in Ndabeni places us close to clients in Woodstock, Salt River, Observatory, Montague Gardens and Century City, but our work does not stop at the Cape Town boundary. Many of our orders go out to other provinces, and we are set up to courier printed fabric throughout South Africa. That means a business in Johannesburg or a maker in East London can use the same service standards as a client dropping off in Cape Town.
We value the mix of local and national work because it keeps the studio grounded. Local clients can visit, discuss fabric choices and move quickly when needed. Nationwide clients rely on communication, clear packing and reliable dispatch. In both cases, the standard stays the same: accurate work, fair handling and a service that respects the deadline.
Fabric Printers Studio is not trying to be all things to all people. We focus on printed fabrics, with enough range to support different uses and enough attention to detail to keep orders useful. If that sounds like the kind of supplier you want, we are happy to help.
