Outdoor Fabric

Printed outdoor fabric for real South African conditions

Outdoor Fabric is printed for use where sun, moisture and daily handling all play a part. It suits covered patios, hospitality seating, retail displays, garden venues and promotional work where you need a fabric that looks sharp and holds up better than ordinary indoor cloth.

At our Ndabeni base in Cape Town we print to order for homes, restaurants, lodges, schools and event teams across South Africa. Because weather conditions vary so much between Cape Town, Durban and inland towns, we always check the intended use before advising on the right cloth and print method.

  • Suitable for covered outdoor use, not constant rain exposure
  • Printed in custom lengths from small sample runs to bulk rolls
  • Useful for cushions, scatter covers, slip covers, banners and fabric displays
  • Courier delivery available nationwide from Cape Town

Size options and ordering formats

You can order outdoor fabric by the metre, in repeated lengths for cushion work, or as a bulk print run for larger jobs. If you are matching an existing set of covers or a branded outdoor area, we can work from a repeat pattern or a supplied artwork file and keep the print consistent across the full order.

For many jobs the most practical route is fabric by the metre at a set width, then cutting and finishing to the final use. If you are covering many seats or producing event stock, it often works out neater to plan the total metres first and allow a little extra for pattern repeat and hemming.

  • By the metre for smaller and custom jobs
  • Bulk rolls for manufacturing, fitment and trade use
  • Repeat pattern setup for ongoing production
  • Strike-off sampling available before a full print run

Where this fabric works best

This product suits covered outdoor seating, shade areas and semi-protected spaces where the fabric gets sunlight, dust and the odd splash but not permanent soaking. It is a good choice for hotel courtyards, café terraces, poolside furniture under cover, school seating, market stalls and branded event setups.

It also works well for eye-catching flags, drop cloth displays and weather-conscious promotional panels. For open exposure, especially near the coast or in windy sites, we will usually discuss the right finish, the right fixation points and whether the design needs extra seam allowance or stronger hemming. That small planning step saves trouble later.

  • Covered patios and veranda seating
  • Hospitality cushions and upholstery panels
  • Indoor outdoor display areas
  • Retail promotions and branded event use

Print, finish and construction choices

Fabric Printers Studio handles custom fabric printing, file checking, colour matching and finishing in one place. That means your artwork can be checked before print, your colour can be adjusted for the cloth, and the final piece can be hemmed or finished to suit the job. We also offer fabric sourcing if you need a specific base cloth for a heavier or lighter result.

For outdoor work, the base fabric and finish matter as much as the artwork. A strong weave is useful for seating covers, while a lighter cloth can suit flags and hanging displays. If the item will be sewn into covers, allow for seam clearance and any zip or tie points before you finalise measurements. A few extra millimetres can make a big difference on site.

  • Custom fabric printing for single items or repeat orders
  • Colour matching for brand or interior schemes
  • Hemming and finishing for ready-to-make-up stock
  • File checking to catch sizing and repeat issues early

Installation, fitment and power needs

Outdoor fabric itself does not need power or gas for use, but the way it is installed matters. Cushions and covers need proper fastening, enough seam strength and the right allowance for stretching and handling. For banners or hanging displays, we recommend eyelets, reinforced edges or a stitched pocket depending on how the item will be mounted.

If the fabric is going into a hospitality or event setup, think about how it will be removed for cleaning and whether it needs to be swapped seasonally. On site teams often forget access to fixings until the last minute, which can slow the job down. A clear measurement sheet and a few photos usually help us get it right first time.

  • No site power or gas required for the fabric itself
  • Fixings depend on whether the item is sewn, tied or hung
  • Allow for cover removal, washing and re-fitting
  • Useful for fitment teams working in Cape Town, Gauteng and coastal towns

Care, cleaning and service life

Outdoor fabric lasts longest when it is cleaned gently and dried properly. Light dust and pollen can be brushed off, while most regular marks can be treated with mild soap and cool water. Harsh bleach, high heat and rough scrubbing can shorten the life of the print and the cloth, so it is better to keep cleaning simple.

In coastal areas, salt and humidity can be harder on any fabric. If you are ordering for places like Muizenberg, Durban North or the Garden Route, let us know so we can talk through the best cloth weight and finish for the environment. It is also worth storing covers dry when they are not in use, especially during heavy rain seasons or when load shedding makes drying time awkward.

  • Brush off dust before washing
  • Use cool water and mild soap only
  • Dry fully before storage
  • Keep spare covers for busy seasons or event runs

What to check before you place an order

Before ordering, check the final size, the intended use and whether the item is going outdoors full-time or only under cover. If you already have a pattern or existing sample, send that through with your measurements so we can compare the repeat and make sure the artwork sits properly on the cloth.

It also helps to confirm the fabric weight, the finish and the number of pieces you need. For trade and business orders, include the delivery address, the area and any access notes for courier drop-off. We print and dispatch from Ndabeni and courier nationwide, so clear details upfront make the process much smoother.
