Activewear Fabric

Our activewear fabric is printed for leggings, gym tops, cycling kits and fitness apparel that needs stretch, colour and repeat wear. From our Ndabeni studio in Cape Town, we supply small batches and bulk runs with courier delivery across South Africa.

Activewear Fabric

Printed for activewear that gets worn hard

Activewear fabric needs more than a good look. It must hold colour after repeated washing, move with the body and stay comfortable through training, travel and day to day wear. We print onto fabrics suited to leggings, fitted tops, studio wear and branded fitness clothing for clubs, gyms, schools and retail ranges.

This product is supplied as printed fabric by the metre or as a run for garment production. It works well for close fit items where stretch recovery matters, and where the print must stay clear on curved seams, waistbands and panels. If you are making a fresh range or replacing a tired old print, we can help with matching the colour and keeping the repeat neat.

  • Suited to leggings, sports tops, warm-up wear and fashion activewear
  • Printed to order for small runs or larger repeat orders
  • Good for local production in Cape Town and courier delivery nationwide

Fabric choices, widths and finish options

Most activewear jobs start with the right base fabric. We print on performance fabrics that are selected for stretch, print clarity and wearing comfort. Common options include polyester blends and stretch knits, depending on the final use. If you need a matte look for studio wear or a brighter surface for branded apparel, we can advise on the suitable cloth before printing starts.

Widths, weights and stretch levels can be matched to the garment pattern. Standard print widths are usually in the 1.4 m to 1.6 m range, though this can vary by cloth. Fabric weight commonly sits between 180 gsm and 260 gsm for activewear applications. When you order, check the seam allowance, stretch direction and whether the print needs to run across the body or along the length of the garment. Small detail matters here, especially on fitted items.

  • Printed by the metre or in cut lengths for production
  • Width and gsm depend on the selected base cloth
  • Suitable for stretch garments where pattern direction is important

Where activewear fabric suits best

This fabric is used in clothing ranges where comfort and movement come first. It is a practical choice for ladies gymwear, mens training tops, kids dancewear and team apparel. It also suits promotional activewear for events, spin studios, running clubs and retail labels that need a custom look without carrying huge stock.

Because the printing is done to order, you can produce a short run for a local launch or a fuller batch for stores and online sales. It also suits businesses working in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and smaller towns where stock must travel well. For coastal areas like Muizenberg or Blouberg humidity can affect packing and storage, so we recommend sealed handling after collection or courier delivery.

  • Gymwear, yoga wear, running gear and dancewear
  • Branded event apparel and club kit
  • Retail fashion ranges and made-to-order garments

Artwork setup and what we check before printing

Good artwork saves time and prevents costly reprints. Before production, files are checked for repeat alignment, colour breaks, image quality and placement. If the print needs a mirrored finish, a tiled repeat or panel placement for leggings, we flag that before the run begins. That is important on activewear because a small shift can show badly on a seam or side panel.

We also check colour expectations against the selected cloth. Some bright colours print differently on stretch fabrics, so if exact brand colour is important we recommend a strike-off sample first. That gives you a physical reference before the full job starts. If you are supplying your own file, save it at proper size and keep fine lines bold enough to hold up on fabric. Thin text can soften once it is washed and worn.

  • Repeat pattern setup and file checking
  • Strike-off sampling available for colour approval
  • Placement checks for panels, logos and all-over print layouts

Printing, power needs and production handling

Our print process is set up for short and medium runs as well as larger bulk orders. Because this is a printed fabric product, there is no installation at your premises. We handle the production, finishing and packing from our Ndabeni base, then courier the fabric to your address or production site. If you are a garment maker, you can collect locally or arrange delivery to your cutting room.

Power or gas needs do not apply to the customer side for this product. What matters is that the fabric is stored properly once delivered. Keep rolls dry, out of direct sun and away from sharp edges. If your workshop has load-shedding interruptions, that does not stop the fabric itself, but it is wise to plan cutting and sewing around your production schedule so stock is not left open for too long.

  • No customer installation required
  • Courier packing and dispatch handled from Cape Town
  • Store rolls dry, flat or upright, and out of direct sunlight

Care advice for printed activewear fabric

Activewear is washed often, so care matters from the start. The finished garment should be turned inside out before washing and kept away from harsh bleach or very hot water. If you are sewing for resale, pass these instructions on to the end user. Correct care helps preserve the print, the stretch and the surface feel over time.

For sewing and servicing, use stretch-appropriate thread and needles so the seams move with the fabric. Avoid over-tight stitching that can break under strain. If you are comparing fabric options, ask about the intended garment use, expected wash cycle and whether the fabric will carry heavy panels or just light logo work. That will guide the best base cloth and finish. A good sample now can save a lot of returns later.

  • Wash cool, inside out and avoid bleach
  • Use stretch-safe stitching for garment making
  • Ask for guidance if the garment will be worn hard or washed often
